Orchestral Brass
Recording Concept
Building an ensemble from the individual instruments sounds more cohesive,
thanks to a brand new recording concept:
3 virtuoso brass players from the famous WDR symphony orchestra were recorded
simultaneously in their natural ensemble, able to see and hear one another but accoustically separated.
The resulting instruments gel together wonderfully as 3-piece ensembles whilst maintaining individual nuances.
Chris Hein pushed the players to their pitch and dynamic limits,
resulting in almost 4 recorded octaves for Trombones & French-Horns
(a whole octave lower than most other brass libraries).
Overview
16 articulations and 8 dynamic layers range from soft warmth to power-ful blasts.
F-Tuba, Sousaphon and euphonium have 24 articulations and up to 16 dynamic layers.
The phase-aligned samples give artefact free blending between the dynamic layers. Perfect for extreme crescendos.
True portamento transitions and other legato types allow for smooth transitions between notes.
Huge customization options utilize the fully-featured interface and intelligent Kontakt scripting.

„How To - Deal With Dynamics“
During the recording and programming of Chris Hein Orchestral Brass there was a great deal of emphasis placed on capturing a wide dynamic range, from the softest notes to the loudest and more aggressive. The players were really pushed to their limit to get the maximum possible dynamics out of their instruments.
Within the Orchestral Brass Kontakt instrument, most sustained articulation have six velocity layers, the shorts have eight and the special articulation have 3 to 4 velocities.
There are four ways to control the huge dynamic range in the articulation preset page.
Control
Control
There are many ways to control the many functions to achieve a convincing realtime performance. You can use hardware faders, a breath controller, TouchOSC on an iPad is a good choice.
Here you see an example of controlling CH-Orchestral Brass using the Leap Motion sensor controller together with Geko MIDI, the controller app for Leap Motion.
The leap motion is the only controller which enables to control multiple functions at a time in a pretty intuitive way.
